We have 25 years experience in carpentry and eight years experience in plumbing.

Alliance Carpentry specializes in historic restoration which includes, but is not limited to: doors, entrance ways and windows restored, repaired or if necessary replaced with custom made doors or windows of the same style.

And weatherstripping. We install, replace and repair spring bronze and other metal type interlocking weatherstripping.

Hardware – We have quite a bit of experience in the repair of older hardware; this includes mortise locks, which can usually be re-keyed or replaced with new cylinders. If repair is not possible we have very good resources to either replace the item with an identical one or a reproduction. We take great pleasure in hunting down an identical piece of hardware.

Our inventory of reclaimed hardware includes: locks, knobs, escutcheons, pulls, hinges, and some bathroom fixtures.

Wall and ceiling repairs are made with wood, expanded metal lath or original Sheet Rock, which is a gypsum product that is formulated to accept two coat plaster products, it is not drywall. We also repair or replace plaster mouldings and medallions.

We make custom radiator covers that may increase the efficiency of your radiators.

We can also accommodate any type of finish carpentry that you may need.

We like service plumbing. This includes kitchen, bath and tub faucets. Sink installations. Sink repair, like resupporting an undermount sink. Disposer repair/replacement.

We snake drain lines and clear toilets.

We repair and replacement toilets. We install bidet seats. We have experience rebuilding 100 year old toilets.

We are trying to save the world one toilet at a time.

We repair and replace gas lines.

The Notching and Boring of Structural Members

Joist Notching – Notching on the ends of joists shall not exceed ¼th the joist depth. Holes bored in joists shall not be within 2 in. at the top or bottom of the joist, and the diameter of any such hole shall not exceed 1/3 the depth of the joist. Notches in the top or bottom of joists shall not exceed 1/6th the depth & shall not be located in the middle third of the span.

Stud Cutting & Notching – In exterior walls and bearing partitions, any wood stud is permitted to be cut or notched not to exceed 25% of its depth. Cutting or notching of studs not greater than 40% of their depth is permitted in nonbearing partitions supporting no loads other than the weight of the partition.

Bored Holes – A hole not greater in diameter than 40% of the stud depth is permitted to be bored in any wood stud. Bored holes not greater than 60% of the depth of the stud are permitted in nonbearing partitions or in any wall where each bored stud is doubled, provided not more than two such successive doubled studs are so bored. In no case shall the edge of the bored hole be nearer than 0.625 (5/8) in. to the edge of the stud. Bored holes shall not be located at the same section of stud as a cut or notch.

Engineered Wood Products – Cuts, notches and holes bored in trusses, laminated veneer lumber, glue-laminated members & I-joists are prohibited except where the effects of such alterations are specifically considered in the design.

Alterations to Trusses – Truss members & components shall not be cut, drilled, notched, spliced or otherwise altered in any way without written concurrence and approval of a registered design professional. Alterations resulting in the addition of loads to any member (e.g. HVAC equipment, water heaters) shall not be permitted without verification that the truss is capable of supporting such additional loading.
